The Yama Shala: A Hidden Mountain Farmhouse

Located about ten minutes by car from either Ryugugake Cottages or the Kyojo area, this restored Meiji era farmhouse is used exclusively by Yama Yoga. Situated on a mountainside looking far down through the Iya Valley towards Yahazu Mountain, there is no road all the way up to this little hideout, and therefore it requires a five minute or so hike up through the forest to access.

Quiet and peaceful, yoga here is without distraction as it is surrounded by forest. The inside space with antique red pine floors is completely fronted with clear glass doors so that long views can be had while practicing, or the doors can be removed and the space can be completely open air during nice weather days.

Alternately, an outdoor yoga space is available next to the house within the garden where there is an equally impressive view.
This space is available by reservation only and directions will be provided prior to arrival. Transportation to/from within the Iya Valley can be arranged, please contact for options.
